Of all the segments of the population from which we had hoped to draw new members, the "conservatives" and "right wingers" have been the biggest disappointment. They are the world's worst conspiracy-mongers - and also the world's greatest cowards. In fact, their cowardice is exceeded only by their stupidity.
The current conspiracy theory being circulated among conservatives is that the Organization is actually in the pay of the System. We are hired provocateurs whose job is to raise enough hell to justify the repressive counterrevolutionary and anti-racist measures the System is taking. If we would just stop rocking the boat, things would be easier on everyone. Whether they believe that theory or not, it gives them an excuse for not joining us.
“More stringent security measures. Universal electronic surveillance. No-knock laws. Stop and frisk laws. Government inspection of first-class mail. Automatic fingerprinting, photographing, blood tests, and urinalysis of any person arrested before he is charged with a crime. A law making it unlawful to resist even unlawful arrest. Laws establishing detention camps for potential subversives. Gun control laws. Restrictions on travel. The assassinations, you see, establish the need for such laws in the public mind. Instead of realizing that there is a conspiracy, conducted by a handful of men, the people reason—or are manipulated into reasoning—that the entire populace must have its freedom restricted in order to protect the leaders. The people agree that they themselves can’t be trusted.”
^^^This was my redpill, way back when. We would have been called conspiracy theorists if we said "What if...?".
Read it late 80s just after the import gun restrictions in '86. Book given to me as a gift, I think it was listed as sci-fi. As a newbie gun owner I sat straight up when I got to this passage. Honestly had never even considered the possibility of .gov doing things like this. Started looking at everything differently from then on.
I'm not conservative. And if those cowards want to test me, let's go Brandon. Also, they prove the conspiracy exist as useful idiots to its cause. Some day we may have to go commie hunting. I've hunted terrorist, criminals and game. Game are the most elusive by far. Commies will be the easiest as their stupidity and pride 3xpose them.
They predicted that any group organizing to work against the System would be immediately called "glowies" or "feds" by people who also claim to oppose the System but who actually can't or won't be bothered to actively oppose it beyond complaining about them on the internet (in modern terms, of course). Lo and behold, they were right.
--The Turner Diaries, 1975.
Called it pretty good, didn't they?
Yes as did The Illuminatus Trilogy, also 1975 -
