What time table do you fast and why? I am contemplating running a 16/8 fast, so 16 hours of not consuming any calories and 8 hours of consuming calories (from 10 am until 6 pm). Any tips or why I should try a different type of fasting approach? Thanks ahead of time for any words of wisdom.

We do intermittent fasting on a regular basis. We eat only two meals a day. A really good breakfast anywhere from 8 am to 10 am and the evening meal around 3 pm. I lost 30 lbs becoming a carnivore and now I add some vegetables in occasionally. I have been able to keep the weight off and keep my energy level up. I avoid at all costs sugar of any kind, processed grains, and most carbs. I am 66 and take no medications.
May I ask what kind of meats do you eat and do you cook a certain way to mix it up a little?
Mostly beef, ground meat 80%, pork ribs, pork chops, pork roasts, chicken and salmon.
Beef tenderloin or ribeyes. I cook with different seasoning but sometimes its hard to find good ones without brown sugar or msg. At least 4 to 6 eggs for breakfast
I could not eat eggs like that. I eat them once in awhile. What type of vegetables do you eat? Fresh or canned? I am gonna try to grow green beans, tomatoes and mini cucumbers. I only have a shaded balcony to work with so I can't do much. I think fresh vegetables might get a little scarce soon.
Self watering pots for a balcony would be a good choice. I avoid tomatoes. Plants unlike most herd animals produce toxins to avoid being eaten. Some toxins are good some bad. Garlic is good for parasites. Some vegetables inhibit mineral absorption.
I forgot something very important. No seed oils of any kind. They go rancid very quickly regardless how they are stored. These are really huge sources of inflammation.
Thank you. I have heard seed oils are not good. They say balsamic is ok. I found a balsamic glaze that is very good. I cut up tomatoes and cucumbers and put it on. I could eat every day.
I am a huge fan of One Meal A Day fasting. I get to pig out, less dishes, less money, more time.
Same. I do love a big girl portion. Even though I'm not a big girl. I can eat!
Yea im a meat head and don't want to see diminishing returns on gains. I appreciate it!
I did that for a stretch of many months. Definitely helped control my anxiety driven nibbling.
However, that schedule is not currently working for me, simply because of demands on my time and energy at the moment. Hoping that changes once Utah "parliament" ends its session in March. My anxiety is going through the roof again in the meantime.
When I have the luxury of down time, I also love doing a 36 hour fast.
If you are going to do 16/8 just try to pick the times and be consistent with them, a 16 hour fast is not that hard to maintain. Avoid carb loading before a fast, or the next day the hunger will be intense.
If you want to start doing longer ones you may want to eat keto the day before you start them so that your body and mind aren't rebelling against you.
Lady pede here. I usually eat one meal a day (OMAD) which is lunch. Sometimes when I wake up and I'm very hungry, I wait a couple of hours, have some porridge with fruit and nuts, or yogurt with a banana and then have my lunch a couple of hours later. My usual fasting hours have been stretched to an average of 20-22 hours. I do drink protein powder after working out in the morning, around 2 hours before my lunch though. I rarely eat dinner, only when there's an occasion. Having dinner makes me feel sluggish and heavy. But you need to do what you feel is best for your body. Some people can go the entire day without eating, so they eat dinner. I can't.
You should have carbs with that protein shake after a workout. Carbs help bring the good stuff into the muscle.
Intermittent fasting.
There are apps out there. Free basic and then paid upgrade.
Eat no later than 7 pm and no earlier than 3 pm
Do 18/6 from noon to six. Lunch, snack, dinner or lunch, dinner.
Why skip breakfast? Because when you wake you are already in a 12+ hr fast. Why ruin it? Have eggs for dinner if you miss eggs. Something I do when I fast. Currently I'm logging out. I just ate 2500 calories for dinner after a 2000 calorie lunch hahaha.
