Germany permanently shut down eight of its 17 reactors and pledged to close the rest by the end of 2022? In late 2021 all but six of the remaining German nuclear power plants were shut down.

In early 2022, Germany closed 3 of its newest and best nuclear power plants producing more than 4050 MW of electricity. That's the energy equivalent of powering all of Denmark. In very late 2022, Germany closed the last 3 nuclear power plants, also 4000 MW.

Germany wanted renewables to account for 80% of it's power mix by 2030. They are making good progress, because renewables now makes up about 44.6% to 50% (solar, wind turbines, hydroelectric, biomass, etc...). Natural Gas makes up about 25% of Germany's energy mix. Coal makes up roughly 22%.

If Russia shuts off the gas, Germany loses about 25% of electric generation capacity. That may mean rolling blackouts, electricity rationing or even some industry shutdowns. It's not a catastrophe, but it's not good either.

France has even less reliance on Russian gas, which only accounts for about 5% to 9% of it's electricity. France gets 70% of it's electricity from nuclear power. (smart). Wind, solar and hydro power is from 22% to 25% of their electricity.

France will be fine. They aren't heavily reliant on Russian energy. Italy also relies on Russian gas for less than 25% of their electricity.

Most of Europe will cope, maybe with some adjustments. Mainly, it's the Northern and Eastern European countries which haven't modernized and still rely on Russian gas that will be in trouble. The U.K., Ireland, Spain and Portugal don't use Russian gas at all. Norway is an exporter of gas. Sweden will be fine.

The countries in the most trouble if Russia shuts off the gas are Greece, Poland, Finland and mainly Eastern European nations, which rely on Russian gas for at least 75% of their electricity.

Why would they go through this, just to keep NATO going another few years? When President Trump takes office again, NATO is done. Pressing Trump will insist they pay their fair share and they can’t afford it.

Europe needs to face the facts: they are in Russia’s backyard the same way South America is in the USA’s backyard.

Fortunately for European countries, the Russian sphere’s superpower is weaker, relative to the other members of that sphere, than other superpowers (USA, China) relative to members of their respective spheres. In other words, “you have to be in a sphere, and for non superpowers, the Russian sphere is the best to be in.”

Germany is fully capable of becoming energy independent. Until then, the Russians have the extra special ability to inflict an energy shortage on Germany if Germany gets out of line. Former NATO members of the Russian sphere will likely band together less as a military alliance and more as a union to counter boss Russia’s weight.

superpowers

This is thinking within the matrix. There never were superpowers, ever. There were only puppets of the Cabal and the Kabuki theatre.

Post cabal, the world will settle into a three sphere world.

Russia gets Russia and Europe.

China gets the Belt and Road including the middle east and most of Africa.

‘Merica gets NA and SA.

It is only natural.

They did it for the reset. To help drop and keep the people in squalor and poverty. Dependent.

A war was always part of their plan.

How difficult is it to get a reactor back online? When you say "shut down" does that mean the reactor is just idle or that they completely bulldozed the nuclear plant for a wind farm?

Shut down reactor / power plant has two different meanings.

Germany "permanently" shut down their nuclear power plants. However, facilities shut down for less than 2 or 3 months can easily be brought back online. It may take some coordination, but getting them back in service shouldn't take more than a week or so, if they were only shut down for a few months.

Power plants that have been shut down for less than a year could be brought back online, but it may take a month to re-certify, re-check, test and replace a few components, but it's not an impossible task. It can be done, just gets more expensive the longer it has been out of service.

Power plants that have been shut down for more than a year are basically scrap metal and salvage. It's like shutting down a refinery. Good luck bringing it back online if needed. Out of service for more than 1 year = forget about it.

Germany has too great a reliance on intermittent renewables. They rely on their neighbours to fill in the supply troughs. OK, they might send their renewables output to a foreign pump storage system when they over-produce and get it back later when they actually need it but without that ability they will struggle.

Basically, they are relying on neighbours to make Germany look good in the renewables arena. That will work until all their neighbours also convert to renewables.

It's not a catastrophe, but it's not good either.

I am sure my friends in California said pretty much the same a few years ago as they started doing energy shenanigans in the name of renewables.

Good news the Russians are planning on closing the pipeline, I guess they are finally fed up with the American and European aggression.
