Downtown Baghdad wasn't peaceful at all like this. The entire city was glowing with fires and the sound of explosions was everywhere. Remember the battles in Syria? The city was filled with rubble and every tall building was in shambles.
We watched Desert Storm on backhaul feeds of our big ole satellite dishes we had back then. It was hilarious to see CNN eejits like Wolf Blitzer hiding under a bed until he had to come out and report.
Back before they were able to report from in front of green screens like that one with Anderson "Vanderbilt" Cooper doing the most fake duck and cover while the image glitches behind him.
I just watched a youtube video of a guy evacuating from Kiev. Walking through quiet streets with no military in sight, he says "so strange that people are being shot and blown up in another part of the city, but here in the centre you would never know anything was going on."
Crowds of people at the train stations, but no real panic. No distant explosions or even gunshots. Some people looked bored.
Remember when the U.S. troops were invading Iraq?

Wag the dog.
Chicago has more gunfire on a weeknight than Kiev so far.
