Their "N" letter looks like an "H." You are confusing it with their letter for "I", which looks like a mirror-reversed "N". But they use "Z" because it is distinct from any Cyrillic letter, as a battlefield identification to prevent friendly-fire accidents.
Thanks for the sauce, I've never seen a keyboard with both Cyrillic and Roman letters before. Confusing AF but anyhow...
That backward N with the breve mark over it is called "short i" in Russian. Placed after another vowel, it makes a sound called "y-glide", like you're just starting to say the consonant Y.
The Z designates the where the forces are from. I think Z is the Western Russian forces V is The Southern Russian forces(could be the other way around) Z with square around are Crimean forces snd theres a a couple other.
"It symbolises support for our armed forces, support for the president's decisions and it is meant to unite us in this difficult situation," the official, Ivan Zhernakov, was quoted as saying.
What's the significance of the "Z" again?
someone said any non-Russian vehicle without the “Z” is “Not-Z.”
hah!
Good one!
All credit goes to Putin and Q.
Their Military Intelligence is genius.
Russian equivalent of letter Q
Please stop saying Z is Russian letter Q.
It is nothing of the sort.
Russian has no Q and no Z shaped letter.
Upside down N actually lol. https://images.esellerpro.com/2416/I/166/43/Microsoft%20Wedge%20Mobile%20Keyboard%20Russian%20QWERTY.jpg

It's nothing at all to do with Z or Q or N.
/wordnerd
Correct. They do not have the letter q.
Not correct. They don't have Z either.
Their Z looks like 3.
How is it equivalent to Q?
the Russian Cyrillic keyboard has a “Z” shaped letter exactly where our English keyboard has the “Q.”
Its like an upside down N https://images.esellerpro.com/2416/I/166/43/Microsoft%20Wedge%20Mobile%20Keyboard%20Russian%20QWERTY.jpg
I wanted it to be true, but I think that's reaching. The letter over Q is й, so even if you turn it on its side, the bar is going the wrong way.
It isnt.
Cyrillic has no Z.
It has a letter that makes the Z sound, it just looks different.
The Z designates the where the forces are from. I think Z is the Western Russian forces V is The Southern Russian forces(could be the other way around) Z with square around are Crimean forces snd theres a a couple other.
Makes sense.
Z could stand for WEST (zapad)
Maybe using Roman Z because Cyrillic Z looks exactly like 3
I've been told is to designate captured equipment.
I think its to avoid friendly fire, clear markings for Russian vehicles
It “Operation Z” but I don’t have the details.
the east in Russian is "zapad". Z is the troops of the east.
Zapad means west actually
Sorry. My mistake. Of course west.
Za pobedu, or “For victory”
