Yes, my machine has powered on and connected to the internet by itself. Every time the power comes on. Start up with AC power On enabled.
Yes. Every time I try to shutdown windows 10 and it trys to update, I hit the mains power and cycle it.
VPNs have a very specific purpose and protecting your identity is not it. That’s just what’s sold to you.
Yes we used to scan IP blocks. Usually looking for hotline servers. Okay that was twenty years ago.
Can you provide sauce that you were actually on a blackhat shit list? Unless you’re loaded or know something, they’re unlikely to spend time on a nobody.
I know a guy who is all worried about data security, personal security, phone security, radio frequency security… but has four google home things in his house. You remind me of him.
Yes, it’s normal behaviour. They don’t see you as an especially juicy target, just another box waiting to get pwned.
Just make sure to relocate port 22, and disable password authentication (public key auth only), and that mitigates 99% of the threat surface.
Try and avoid windows or even Mac and Linux in the DMZ if possible. Put some low powered thing in the middle and run a variety of BSD on it.
BSD won’t fix all security threats, but it will force you to learn the real nuts and bolts of TCP/IP, and then confidently protect what you want to protect.
VPN IP ranges are often scanned. Sometimes by the VPN provider. If anything it's likely to be an increase in botnet activity or a worm attempting to spread. If I was going to scan for target machines I absolutely would scan every IP on the VPN subnet. VPN providers and ISPs often scan to monitor traffic and services being used.
If your machine powers on and "logs on to the net" (how do you define that process exactly) by itself, I would be 1) surprised 2) certain you have malware on your machine.
What is alerting you to these attacks? Please don't say a software antivirus/firewall. These products instill fear as a way to keep you subscribed.
I'm not trying to attack you, but your responses don't make me believe you have as much understanding of these topics as you claim. We're only trying to help and if you provide more specifics on your problems we may be able to assist further.
Thanks for your response.
I was just making a simple point, that I was showing a large number of scans and my machine was attacked that day. That's all, and i wondered if I was the only one seeing it.
That was all.
I didn't want or need a complete analysis of all possibilities of what it could or couldn't be.
it's just people scanning randomly, don't be paranoid
Just people scanning randomly.
Do you scan people randomly?
This isn't my first rodeo i know how it works.
i'm talking about volume. Way up recently.
Don't know about you, but my machine has been attacked several times, causing damage at one point.
Has your machine ever powered on and logged onto the net by itself?
Have you ever been unable to turn your machine off without unplugging it?
Would you consider that 'paranoid' too?
i was on several blackhat shitlists before the internet even was a thing so 'paranoid' is hardly the answer.
Does it still happen when NOT connected to VPN?
The VPN could actually be causing it.
Yes
It was just a comment and I was looking to see if anyone else was showing a big increase.
thanks for the comment

Again, I already know ALL this, don't 'rely on' or even USE a VPN normally because of it. It DOES keep the iP from the snoop, but the VPN knows it.
I know a guy.
i'm not 'worried' about security I merely COMMENTED on the FACT that the snooping is WAY up on MY machine.
You could have just replied in the negative or not at all, but no, you have to pretend to hump me about a moot point and then downvote.
Can you provide sauce that you know a guy?
Provide sauce. Yeah, I'll go to the people and ask for the list.
Guess what? I did EXACTLY that in one case and proved it.
I was fired for exposing the cabal plan involving a senator, the DHS chief, and heads of several state departments.
You don't know who I am or anything about what I did and do.
I didn't down doot you because I'm not into playing games.
Not worried about radio frequencies and your ability to remain anonymous?
You're considered 'paranoid' by the left just for being here.
But lack of information makes them wrong and same with you.
It isn't that you know something I don't fren.
But I will say that your comments show that you're sophomoric at best at what's going on with the big picture.
Why are you here....to downvote?
i'm pretty sure i was doing this before you were born.
I have a background in the study of frequencies, you want to have a go around about it or do you already know all about that too?
Rather butt hurt for being called out. You reek of bullshit.
Called out for WHAT? For getting more port scans than you?
what did you call me out on again?
I called you out on that, and you're idiotic statement about frequencies.
You didn't respond to that I notice.
Butthurt.
The navy. oookay
Did you kiss Neptune's greased belly?
Do you know what that's about, wiseguy?
C'mon ..........bring it.
you reveal your SELF by your comment
rest assured you're dead wrong
move on chump, it's getting salty in here.
Only on your side. Reeeee a little harder bullshitter.
You lose the game of information by playing with insults.
The salty projection is hilarious
You keep coming back like a dog to its own vomit.
What do you need to know to understand, maybe I can help

It’s like a second amendment for your network:)
Thank you.
I'm waiting for Taiwanese ports to get attacked. Hopefully a sign all this that the end is near.
It's those darned Russians again....
