I feel embarrassed to ask. Was thinking that :) would be turned into a smiley face but that doesn't work. I did some searching but most of the hits talks about a Windows computer. I'm running a linux desktop. Was looking for some sort of links on what the post editor supports but didn't find any such links. Our gifs/qposts sidebar link doesn't mention emoji's.

I'm not looking to add them to my username. I'm referring adding them to a post/comment.
LOL I was gonna answer for a Windows computer.
If you're on Linux, yes you should be embarrassed to ask/be unable to find this info on your own because of your inherent superiority in all things!
😜
Good one. And yes, us linux users are superior, we just don't like to brag. 🙂
LOL oh contraire my fren, the meme with guy walking up to other guy at urinals is perfect for "I'm a Linux user"
I'm not familiar with that meme.
I'm a developer. Been doing it for 30+ years. I worked on Windows and Linux. I guess everyone will have their own opinion. Linux, in my opinion, is the superior OS. By the way, I actually worked at Microsoft many years ago. Windows certainly has the edge in home use. Corporate america servers are mainframes and Linux. Windows on the desktop because of email and office apps. Most home users wouldn't know the difference if they switched to Linux as they probably are in the browser 100% of the time. Tablets - iOS and Linux. Phones - iOS and Linux. Apple, Steve Jobs I think, was smart when they switched to using a customized version of BSD Unix for their OS.
Hey, maybe Linux is new to them and they're just figuring this stuff out! Let's help them, not condescend to them.
If you couldn't tell I was joking around with "inherent superiority" as well as the goofy face emoji I don't know what to tell you.
My sarcasm detector doesn't work all the time, as the internet is a place of wonder and mystery!
Things like this make it easy. Copy and paste.

😀
This might be the best and most viable way to answer the OP's question!
Find somewhere to cut and paste from.
eg. https://emojipedia.org/smiling-face-with-smiling-eyes/ is this one 😊
The advantage of this method is it works just about anywhere.
Here's your full list!
Unicode is your friend!

Thanks. And how do I enter a unicode character or set of characters into a post or comment?
Hmm... actually, disregard this! I don't think .win supports unicode or HTML-based symbols when entering them manually. Numpad entries work of course, but it seems the only way to properly implement emojis here is to find a site where you can copy + paste them (as solarsavior linked above), or use .win on mobile where they are readily available via your phone's keyboard.
I usually like keyboard solutions over gui/mouse solutions. I know there are some editors that used to allow you to enter characters via typing in their octal numeric codes. Of course handling some typical ascii characters as many apps do would be easier. For instance, I would think it should be easy to handle :) as a smiley face. I guess everyone would see it as a smiley face anyways, but putting in the graphic would be useful.
