The Grand Union flag was the first flag of the United States after the Revolutionary War. In a way, this could be seen as a good thing. A new beginning for our country?
Also, we live near the same area, so I'm going to have to be on the lookout.
I many provided links in a comment below. It took me a while to find them all.
I travel that road when going Down East coastal area of NC. I took some pictures one day on my return trip home. It took me several trips to notice those flags. I was so concerned with the sign I missed the flags.
Iirc, the grand union flag was the first flag of the united colonies, flown by George Washington during the revolutionary war in 1776. The first versions of the stars and stripes weren't used until 1777 as far as I recollect.. To me, that you see both, the flag of the US Colonies and the one that is from the post revolution,of the USA, gives me hope. It's been quite a while though since I read about that stuff, so forgive me if I'm a bit off.
It gave me hope also. I was really excited when I saw the 1776 flag. Just noticed the grand union flag yesterday. I’m pretty knowledgeable with history but I do forget a lot of what I read. No forgiveness necessary. A few weeks ago took pics of that display but the wind was low & flags were not flying.
I probably should delete this post after I probably answered my question. I travel by Cherry Point a lot going to the NC coast. I was so excited when I saw the 1776 flag. Anyone know if this flag has always flown on the Marine or any military base? I was hoping it was a sign of hope for all us patriots.

Upon further research I’ve learned the Marines were established in 1776 by John Adams.

Marine Corps was created in 1775 in a bar called Tun Tavern in Philadelphia.
Yup, hoorah! Learned that in boot camp at Parris Island
Uuh Raah
And, if said while carrying a blade between your teeth while scaling the side of ship for boarding purposes, it's pronounced "Arrrggg!"
Worrying.
