B-b-but the teevee man sez cholesterol and saturated fat are BaD FoR mE!
The cholesterol thing might be why these people struggling with critical thinking. Depriving your brain of cholesterol is a bad thing
Fat is vital for the protective myelin sheath around our nerve cells. Our nerves literally decay without a healthy amount of fat and protein in our diets.
isn't cholesterol also linked to testosterone production?
Yep, which explains the soy boys. Although there is some protein in soy (a lot for a plant food, which is to say not much), only about 5% of it is bioavailable to humans.
Eggs, OTOH, have protein that is 98% bioavailable, and meat is 90%+ bioavailable. All animal foods contain cholesterol, and no plant foods do.
I'm not against soy in small doses (tofu is pretty good as a compliment to meat, actually. also try freezing it before adding to stir-fry. it has an almost completely different texture), but i could never give up meat willingly...
Our hormones are manufactured from cholesterol. A low good cholesterol level is very bad for you.
Cholesterol also serves a vital function in plugging lesions in the endothelial lining of the blood vessels. Lesions are often caused by the spiky projections on molecules such as glucose and insulin, which rip microscopic holes in the endothelium. When cholesterol plugs them, it's being the GOOD guy, not the bad guy.
Trying to lower serum cholesterol (a fruitless exercise, as every cell in the body makes more if you suppress it with statins) is like blaming the firemen for the fire just because whenever you see a fire you also see firemen.
The comedian Jerry Clower once said that you were born with cholesterol, and you couldn't really change it. I've never had high cholesterol, no matter what I've eaten.
