If you are referring to property taxes, I'm all for it. The stated reason for property taxes is that this money is used to support public schools. If that is the case (I don't think it is), then those property owners who don't have children in public schools ought not to have to pay property taxes.
Property taxes essentially diminishes one's right to own property. The simple test for proving this is try paying less than your property tax. You'll quickly find yourself in jeopardy of losing your property through widespread government confiscation practices. That's not real ownership.
If it's any consolation, a real estate collapse is probably headed our way like a freight train, making the 2007/8 financial crisis look relatively minor.
The numbers of pissed off people will be increasingly on our side to fight stupidly outrageous property tax bills.
Here's the thing. My grandparents should not have had to pay taxes on a home that was paid off for over 30 years. And obviously their children were grown and out of the house. To me, taxation should end there.
I'm against property tax as a whole, but if we're being taxed, how about those with children pay until kids move out. Then the taxes should drop. When the house is paid off, no taxing my land.
I mean some people around me are paying 12 to $16000 a year just in property taxes. It's downright ghoulish
I agree, income tax and property taxes should be eliminated, the only tax that should exist is sales tax, and tariffs. You should be able to own a piece of property, and de grid yourself without having to worry about making enough money to pay the property tax
You are all for it? but in a chicago suburb a 3000 sqft home (I know bigger that my empty nester needs) on .8 acres, with well water(I pump it) , septic sewage(I pump it), and no sidewalks. While schools are pretty good scholastically, they're still a liberal pit.
Current value $600K, and that's cheap for chicago suburbs.
My property tax bill in Lake County is $14,000 / year.
Nearly $1200 per month just to live in "my" house.
That's along with income tax at 7% and state and local sales taxes that exceeds 10%.
I understand we need to fund public services but this is ridiculous, especially now that I'm retired. I will be forced to move away from my grandchildren to afford their Christmas presents.
Moving away may be the BEST Christmas gift you can give them…. An example of making smart financial decisions. We have just over 12 acres just across the cheddar curtain in southern WI. Woods, 1 river, 1 stream, pasture land, 1 acre tillable, 3b21/2b farmhouse, barn, corn crib, 3 car garage, wildlife, wildlife, wildlife. Deer, raccoons, opossum, squirrel, wild turkeys, geese, cranes, fish, turtles, coyote, rabbits, bald eagles You name it we prolly have it…. Nature, gods country.. that’s the BEST Christmas gift and MORE!! Move now!
Totally agree, lived in Wales for 10 great years. Been looking but don't want to get too far north, and still have a desire for a bit of property being a Ham radio guy. Parents just passed so have even less connection with NW in.
It's a bit of a process and you'll have to study up unless you have several thousand dollars to throw at someone to do it for you. Get the Land Patent (usually called Land Grant in the eastern US), also called Allodial Title. They have no right to tax your land, water, sunlight, air, or any basic need.
The US Code is clear about who is really supposed to be paying taxes. We've been duped into thinking it's us.
My property taxes have doubled in 6 years. It's outrageous. I'll be paying this place off soon & yet I'll have to continue to pay these taxes for the rest of my life. I feel helpless with them arbitrarily raising it all the time.
I like what that guy was saying somewhere, I wish I remember where I saw the video...... Was it Patrick howley.... Talking about getting the oil out of the federal lands and using that and eliminating all taxes.
David Straight teaches how to gain real title to your property among other things. It's fascinating, but also quite lengthy. You must learn some law and be able to represent yourself eloquently in a courtroom.
Honestly land taxes in many states aren't that bad and i am 100% anti fed but i also understand cities do have to run somehow so i dont lnow of a feasible way to get rid of all taxes. My 2400 sqft on .6 acres is arpund 2k a year with homestead, my empty lot .35 acres is only 165 dollars a year. I'm in Alabama though so we have pretty low property tax.

I wish I could give you more than one upvote!
Thanks, that comment made my day.
We're feeling the bite too.

Try 3000 on .8 with well and septic. $14,000 per year. Where does alabama derive the revenue necessary for public schools and services?
Not 100% but we pay about 9% city/county tax and food is taxer here so they always get their money somehow...
