Could anyone comment on downloading the torrent behind a VPN? Would a software vpn suffice, or would you have to go hardcore with VPN hardware?
The only thing I know about VPN's that I've heard is that all of them legally have to have a back door.
Haven't heard about them needing to "legally" have a back door, just that your ISP may not be able to see your exact data through a VPN (bold, as the content is just routed through them before being delivered to your PC anyway) but would be able to track it down and forcibly acquire it from any legitimate business anyway.
Most ads for vpn's say they make it harder for your data to be shared, nothing is 100%
It's called an NSL, and if your company has even a single server in the US or US territory, you are a subject to it. If you disclose that you received it you go to prison for a very long time. Pure evil.

I'm old school, and I guarantee most here are smarter than I. I'd proxy chain before I'd trust a vpn.
I pretty much rely being a low profile target. In other words I use a VPN like I would a lock, or other security measures. Make it just tough enough to break into my home, that the thief will go down the road to someone else's place.
But downloading hunters laptop may be like one advertising that lots of valuables are in the house which would change the risk/reward factor.
