What is this thread all about?
Just a place for general discussion. A place to unload whats on your mind and talk about anything - personal, health, help needed, achievements, daily highs and daily lows, theories, predictions and what have you.
Does not need to be Q related.
All I have to do is touch my microwave door handle. In winter it will even arc across the door gap.
It may have actually had a grounding issue, as in with its ground straps to the chassis or whatnot. Just spitballing here...could be if it was cloth interior, a particularly static-generating one....
Sheesh! That doesn't seem right.
But don't microwaves give off positive ions
Maybe while they're running, but otherwise if it's a three prong plug it's an excellent ground source to uncharge.
I was just making a joke because the damn thing shocks me every time. But the arc across the door gap (in drier months/winter) is still impressive.
So you just touch it while its plugged in but not running?
If it's metal, yes. Although even if it has a metal handle it may be isolated, touch the case if it's metal.
This is going off of if it's got a three prong plug, the third prong is a ground. So it should work about the same as any metal appliance/tool with a grounded cord.
I've never tried it personally, but grounding will discharge static electricity. Whenever I've built up a charge it seems to discharge grabbing a doorknob or something. I have no carpeting at home so been quite a while since I've built one up.
I feel good when I use mine
