As far as this kind of sun-worship goes, it frequently (could even go so far as to say, "usually") takes decades for overexposure to develop into skin cancer. People didn't really expose themselves like this on beaches until the latter-half of the 20th century, and, as we all know, young people are invincible and immune to any sort of disease or other bad things (/sarcasm). Many of the people in this photo are now in dermatology offices.
In my case, it took about 40 years for cancers to start developing after I was overexposed in my youth. I didn't go shirtless after I was about 20 or so, so I know when the damage was done -- most of my worst burns were when I was less than five years old.
True. I am 40 now and the sun damage is really doing weird shit lol.
My forearms and upper back/neck look like discolored Swiss cheese from all the dozens of treatments...
At least you're alive. Genetics are a hell of a drug. My dad spent his entire youth outside shirtless and shoeless and he died in his 70s from kidney issues, no cancers ever.
Hopefully you stay healthy and with us :)
Thank you! :)
Yeah in the 90's I was treated for Basal cell carcinoma twice on my nose...not fun...we grew up using Coppertone and baby oil. Summer hadn't truly arrived until you got your first burn staying out all day at the Indiana Dunes or until you were 50 shades darker. Wish I could turn back the clock but alas no mulligans. I respect the sun a lot more as an adult.
There was no sunscreen until I was an adult and I'm an ultra pale redhead (before white) who burned in minutes in the sun. I avoided the sun as much as possible and now have all kinds of sun damage issues and one spot that was pre-cancerous that was removed by the dermatologist.
And, yeah, at this time we used to see plenty of fat and even hugely obese people. That includes little kids. My brother, who died young of a stroke, was one of them.
Maybe at least some of this obesity epidemic is propaganda to get you to avoid food. I think it's a bit fishy that the latest diet fad is fasting. Not against fasting, just questioning the timing.
The cause of most skin cancers are in places not usually exposed to sun and is caused by florescent lights.. those long tubes all offices and shops had. Now led lights are bad too
Unless you're talking about the fluorescent lights used in tanning beds, they're safe: https://www.valleyheating.com/blog/2019/june/do-fluorescent-lights-actually-cause-health-prob/
No I read it was the florescent lights in offices causing skin cancers
