Here’s a Photoshop view of how far our Indiana hero was from the mall shooter when he terminated him.

My husband purchased a laser bullet for his gun that allows us to practice at home. He is ex-military and hunts so he is familiar and comfortable with guns. Me on the other hand am a novice. He downloaded an app that tells you the accuracy of each shot in the session (about 8-10 groups of shots). The target can be anything but I used a bullseye target. The bullet was only $22 and the app is free so this saves having to go to the shooting range. It's a great way to practice shooting and to teach a novice how to shoot and become comfortable handling and shooting a gun. This was a very good solution to teach me about guns.
As a fellow novice I've got to say while the laser is cool and can improve accuracy you still have to get out and fire an actual gun. Nothing prepares you for that explosion except experiencing it!!
He did mention that. But as a starting point this is effective. He bought it as a "game" but found it practical to start me off. Believe me I know zip, zero, nothing about firearms so there is much to learn. We have come to a point in our society that it seems important to have this knowledge and even to carry. He has a carry permit but leaves it in his car and I have encourged him to carry at all times. Times have changed...and not for the better.
Agree. Never thought I'd be doing this.
I have a laser bullet and use it on a regular basis. I also bought a blue hand pew that is weighted to feel realistic that has a laser and auto resets each trigger pull. I use that for time drills. I use laser hit app that I am able to link up with a smart tv that shows all your hits right on screen. It's a great tool and even my better half and son use it.
I like using the bullet laser more because I can put it in my carry pew. It beats just dry firing.
I started to buy airsoft replicas 2 years ago (due to ammo prices) so we can practice more with rifles. My current rifle is battery powered and has simulated recoil. It's as close to the real thing as you can get.
I don't know what a pew is, I'll pass this on to hubby. Yeah, the app shows where you hit...pretty cool. He bought a set for $80 and then discovered you only needed the bullet because the app was free and you can use any target. He set his phone up on the camera tripod and it was pretty portable. He also had a bullet for another rifle so I can learn different firearms. He reloads bullets but I know ammo is scarce. I felt comfortable just holding and aiming and that's a good start. I feel too old to be learning but it is time so there's no time like the present.
“pew! pew! pew!” Get it now?
Okay!
Pew = firearm
Firearms are tools and as long as tools are used safely then you should never be scared. Just make sure you get proper training (your hubby should be able to provide at minimum the basics).
There is no age limit to learn how to protect yourself and your family. We have done scenarios in our home on what to do if we have an unwanted guest. Our bedroom is at the rear of the house and our sons room is towards the front. Which puts using a handgun as our second option. My go to home defence is a shotgun with small game load. And her job is to back me up with a handgun. My son knows to get under his bed. He is now 12 and almost to big to get under the bed, but that's still the plan for now.
We all use the laser and app (I use a tripod too). We actually made a fun family game doing so. It doesnt last to long, but 20-30 minutes twice a month is more practice than what I've been getting with live ammo.
In today's world it is almost a necessity. You are very wise to prepare and making part of the training a game is even better. I never really wanted to learn to use firearms (not my thing) but it just seems the right thing to do now. I may even learn to enjoy it!
I taught my kids at the range. My oldest embarrassed the boys at college when challenged to an airsoft competition. She made me proud.
That is a great skill to learn at an early age!
Awesome! I'm gonna try this for my family.
I got mixed reviews on this. No shooting range near us. Will you name the app and the the type of $22 bullet, if you are happy with it.
We use iTarget Pro - just search it up

He said the app he used is Strikeman but there is also an app called Mantis. The bullet is a laser GAME (not sight) bullet that is available on Amazon at about $22.00/per caliber. I don't know what that means. I started on the 9mm handgun. The app show the accuracy of your shots on your phone (or tv?). It serves a specific purpose and I enjoyed being introduced to shooting this way. It seemed fun and cost effective but I suppose there is nothing like shooting real bullets. I have to work through this slowly.
