Umm...I thought atheism is the absence of a belief in a religion. How would this be Constitutional?
Most athiest in this country are so with the intent to be anti Christian.
But the vast majority do not follow the Satanic Temple. The Satanists are seeing this as opportunity to expand by telling everyone in that community there is a religion where they can be what they want to be.
There is an effort to mainstream Satanism. Was watching an episode of Ancient Aliens where the gist of the episode was "God is bad for not letting us have everything, Satan was the good guy for showing it all to us."
Well, "Theos" means God in Greek. An "ism" is a belief. And putting "A" at the beginning of a word negates it.
So "theos-ism) (abbreviated to theism) means "belief in God" and "a-theism" is "no belief in God".
Nothing to do with religion.
You make a good point. One thing we need to remember is "religion" mainly means practiced rites, rituals, and habits that people hone with a certain purpose or goal in mind. It doesn't NECESSARILY mean any belief in something spiritual. It just happens to be that spiritual beliefs yield religion in people.
Like when Jesus was around, he was stomping on people's religion, trying to show them the truth they were all missing. That's why he was crucified, he argued too well against their established religion and threatened the good thing they had going. He wanted them to see it's not about what you do, but Who you trust in.
I think Satanists and atheists are different things...
And yet it is mass upvoted and clearly supported on the Atheism subreddit.
