The idea is to make sure your body has had enough clean iodine so it rejects any radioactive iodine131 and excretes it because the stores are already full. I don't see why Lugols wouldn't work, but maybe do your own research rather than take my word for it.
Some people say you can damage your thyroid by taking too much iodine and taking Lugols internally might do this. But I often do it with no ill effects. maybe 3 drops in a cup of water. I think my body wouldn't freak if I took more.
From what I understand, it fills the thyroid so radiation can’t fill it up. I have to do much more research with the links provided by PropertyofUniverse.
I'm happy with a bottle of Lugol's nascent iodine. A few drops of that will do I reckon.
Awesome! I have that.

I was thinking along the same lines. I will do that. I have a big extended family. 17😉 kids and grandkids. Thank you for your help!

What will this do for radiation poisoning?

That research would be beneficial for us to read! Please share when you are finished, and also thank you for the iodine info!
Wait, really? It doesn't have to be potassium Iodide specifically?
Potassium iodide only really prevents ONE KIND of radiation injury, to the thyroid.
Lugol's contains potassium iodide as well as iodine. I can see it in the ingredients list on my bottle.
