Going to church does not make you a Christian any more than sitting in your garage makes you a car. There is no discussion here about commitment to scripture - in fact if anything it is the opposite as shown in the last paragraph.
Church attendance usually climbs during periods of geopolitical instability and economic uncertainty. So it’s not particularly surprising. People are scared and uncertain. Christian faiths generally speaking offer some measure of stability and comfort.
Times of unrest = increased church attendance
Times of peace, comfort, and stability = decreased attendance
I’ve seen it. Went to high school with absolute assholes who grew up, married, had kids, and are now devout Christians & much better people. Interesting phenomenon.
I would rather stay at home, read the Bible, and pray. I know I SHOULD be going to church. But I have a hard time trusting any organization that take bribes from the government to stifle their Freedom of Speech. I know there are good churches out there. I just don't have the energy to go out and find them.
I hear you. I’m lucky and I found a small Bible church. Nothing but scripture and absolutely nothing woke at all. These churches are around, just take the effort. Interview the minister to save time. That’s always fun!😉
I agree with what some people are saying about how just because you go to Church, it doesn't mean you're a Christian. But we need to look at this objectively.
This is part of the Great Awakening. I and many others have been saying all along that the religious Christian revival aspects of the Great Awakening have been kicking it into overdrive in the past few years, and this is just more proof of that.
Like OP and u/RandomNumber pointed out, this is but one metric of measurement and it's a relatively good one. If in person Church attendance and religious conversions have jumped this much in the past few years, then how much has the actual percentage jumped if you include the people who don't go to Churches in person because of moral standards (Can't find a church that's not full of sheeple), but instead found God and Worship through online Church Livestreams?
Christianity was never really on the decline in the USA, but now it's growth has been kicked into overdrive and it's undeniable to anyone who's paying attention that we're back on track to beat the "record high adherence %" of the 80s and 90s.
Post Great Awakening, I fully expect us to be a nation that's 85-90%+ Christian. Of course not EVERYONE will be super devout, but with adherence numbers that high, you can expect a massive number of devout believers.

Great points. Also wondering if age might have something to do with it. 3 years isn't a long time, but millennials are somewhere between 26-40 now.
There has been data to suggest. People particularly young to middle age adults are more likely to head to church if they have children.

Looks like a great awakening.

And how much of that 18% increase was just because they wanted to participate in the drag show?
Its an attack.
