To the Democrats credit, Democrat controlled Vermont and Maine don't have too bad of a murder rate.
Also mostly white
Maine has the lowest murder rate in the country. The majority are are domestic violence, followed by drug related, frequently involving drug dealers from out-of-state. We have very low rates of random violent crime. It's also worth noting that we have constitutional carry and if not the highest gun ownership per capita, close to it. I'm convinced election rigging is largely responsible for our state being Democratic controlled.
I don't think its the gun ownership, most southern states have high gun ownership and constitutional carry. There's something they have that Maine doesn't, at least very few of them.
Good point. Every Democrat governor we've had in the last couple of decades has done everything they could to change that. Portland and Lewiston are very different cities now than they were 20 years ago.
You only need so many astronauts and lawyers in a town, but we can thank the 1968 Hart-Cellar Act for this mess.
I know open carry is no problem in Vermont. Haven't looked into concealed, but many Vermonters always seem to have a gun handy. Vermont is mostly white, and the biggest city has a population of 40,000. And the governor is a Republican.
Vermont just elected a Republican Governor!
