I seriously doubt someone that preys upon children can be a Christian. We all sin and fall short, but abusing a child requires an evil heart. Someone with such a heart never truly accepted Christ and welcomed the Holy Spirit into their heart, even if they claim so outwardly. It's incompatible.

Problem with a guy fully engulfed is similar to a person drowning. They can panic and pull you in. Unless you're properly trained or equipped you can get seriously injured. If the person did it deliberately it isn't worth the risk.
