That is exactly why I will never get one. I remember about 15 years ago I had read that verizon, I think it was, had patented a TV box for your home that had a camera which would watch your family to give you personalized advertisements. I knew then a lot of tyranny was coming our way.
They do. I run a thrift store, sell lotsa used tv's, many Samsungs.
In a "dark" room, take a flashlight along the black tinted edge- you'll see the lens (not just the remote sensor) usually just off center along the bottom. Or use an infrared detector app (free from app stores).
I recall one of the first utube vids I ever watched, maybe 20 yrs ago... an appliance repair tech, perplexed, made multiple vids showing cameras in ol' school vcr's and dvd players with cameras pointed out, yet nothing in owners manual mentioning it nor suggesting its use for being there? He was bewildered enough to make a collection of vids showing various manufacturers/brands containing cams AND microphones -- all this during the pre-Alexa (& the like) days.
Was eye opening
Edit to add that there's a reason Mark Zuckerberg keeps electrical tape over his computers camera lens on his desk (some of you may recall the viral video of this fact, maybe a decade ago?)
Interesting, I'm sure Snowden only touches the edges of what's being done. I remember the BBS days and the Feds were quite active even then. Pirate boards with stolen software, but there were other sites as well...

Cameras are cheap, Samsung supposedly has mouse type for their TVs RE: Cameras in TVs
Sounds just like 1984.
1984 meets Hunger Games.

Heck I cover my computer & ipad screen camera also, have for years, some of my family does it as well.
Yep, when I saw that he had that, and then like a week or so later, James Corney also had tape, I figured we plebians had no hope of security.

I don't know what you mean by Mouse but are you saying that there is a camera inside the television screen?
Their user agreement. Mouse type is the legal crap on everything that no one reads, but you agree to.
Cameras inside TV There may be..., They gave themselves permission.
Thank the Lord the TV in my living room is at least 20 years old. 😁
