I always find the way this is framed so nefarious.
Like in the USA, the country is approximately 13% black.
Can I say the NBA is over represented? If we're going by percentages, then baseball is at about 10%,a little below but pretty close to country %. Yet I keep reading how blacks are under represented in baseball.
Then the part that nobody will ever bring up... What percentage of the 13% of blacks actually play baseball as kids or in school? How many play hockey? What percentage of white players actually make it to the major leagues? Percentage of black? Hispanic?
Don't you think all this equates directly to the numbers?
That's an important thing to note. "Under represented" to them just means "less than whites". There's no rationale, no reasonable understanding. 13% means that they will always be a minority in non-racist sports (cough NBA cough). There will always be outliers (more than the norm) but that will not universally be the case.
It's unreasonable to assume there will be black representation everywhere, and a lot of it at that. And yes, those statistics have other variables like black kids being enthusiastic and working towards those sports.
To further the point, there are more variables than that as hockey (for example) is already a niche sport for much of the U.S., and getting in practice and actually playing as you grow is not very feasible for a lot of communities -- black OR white.
That’s the best comeback I’ve seen in awhile!
Perhaps we should point out that Maradona once described himself as black.
I had a cousin way back in the 1800s who wanted to live with a black woman. It was against the law for him to marry her. So he lived with her and told the census taker that he was black. So that's what the records show, in spite of the fact that in the photo I have he's as white as I am.
Fucking Amen.
Now ask that about China!
Ay caramba, es muy bueno, no?

I did read the article. It was more of a history lesson of black people in Argentina and what has led us to the team they have today. Not really “Why isn’t there more people, there should be at least this many”
So more of an educative article
Oy vey!
