We fought the wrong enemy.
I think we'll be reclaiming that soon with the use of a rope.
Maybe a little of what they had, rubbed off on the many Gen X'ers here in the Great Awakening.
We fought the wrong enemy.
"The" should be CAPITALIZED --- 'THE Greatest Generation'...
The country made the call and they answered that call without any qualms.
Son of a WWII Veteran who was an US Army Engineer for the fight in the Aleutians...1st on the beach, last off.
Hand Salute to these men!!!
NOTE: I am retired military and volunteered for Vietnam AND my nephew also volunteered in a US Army Armored Unit and served in the Iraqi War!!!
My bad. You are correct.

That's the generation who taught me. They never wanted a repeat of what they did. Not for them or their kids. But when it does...don't ever hold back.
I run into vets at my day job (fewer and fewer of the ww2 guys, obviously). And for about a decade I worked a part-time job with a Korean War vet that I later found out had been in multiple combat engagements.
These guys can impart more wisdom in a sentence than you can get in a semester of school.
And.... I always have the distinct impression they can kill me where I stand. Sure, it would hurt their arthritis-riddled bodies, but I'm 110% sure they all have at least 'one good kill' left in them, if it's necessary.
Gran Torino was a movie, but it could be a documentary for many of these guys. Don't fuck with them. They are way scarier than gang thugs.
Much respect.
wisdom rooted in solid good old fashion common sense.
😂 They are the generation that let thugs take over the cities because they were too scared to do anything except flee to the suburbs.
I don't think they did so intentionally, or even out of cowardice.
There's nothing wrong with having cultural diversity in the 'inner city'. Lefties say that's preferred, righties say it ruins things.
They're nothing wrong with having cultural hegemony in suburbia. Lefties say it ruins things, righties say that's preferred.
They probably moved to suburbia for a quality of life and culture they wanted.
Those left in the inner city? They were supposed to work their way up and out, just like most everyone else. Sure there were a few rough types, some bad ombres. But why would John Q. Public veteran think his previous neighbors would turn into thugs demanding their gibs? John wasn't raised that way. He was raised to have self respect, and presumes most other people do to.
It was ignorance, not cowardice. If they knew then what they know now, they could have acted and things would be different. BUT immediately post WW2, how would they know?
Yes, there are solutions. And if they had been even more awake they could implemented those early solutions.
But don't insult an entire generation because of few dingbats, fuckwits, and leftists.
We still do.
But we used to, too.
Enemies foreign and domestic
Back in his day, when countries attached America, they invaded countries on the opposite side of the globe.
I don't recall anyone being hung or shot for the FED.
Ran into a guy the other day, an older gentleman who works at Lowe's. He was at Ia Drang fighting with Colonel Hal Moore. Those who have seen We Were Soldiers know exactly what I'm talking about. These kids today have no idea...
Ummm...
