I did some research many years ago in my home town. I looked at the 1915 city directory. Back then, there was an asterisk beside all black people and all black-owned business. Over half the places to eat were black-owned. Their places were called "eating houses," meaning private homes that served meals to the public. When I was growing up, there were still a couple of white restaurants in old houses that operated similarly, one of which was Italian.

Most of the grocery stores were black-owned. Back then, there were no supermarkets, just corner stores. Many of those buildings still exist. You can recognize them from their screen doors with advertising on the screen, mainly Merita Bread.

Every single barber shop in town was black. There was also a type of street vegetable vendor called a huckster, and most of them were black. They would load their truck or wagon with vegetables and flowers and park on the main street Saturday morning. Even when I was growing up, there were still hucksters, and there was still one white family who drove their horse and wagon downtown to sell stuff.

My town did have a large percentage of really black free people. Later on, we started getting lighter colored ones coming in from up north. Mixed race people, many with brown or reddish hair.

Too bad our grade schools don't teach reading as a fundamental element of education. Otherwise the blacks of today could read this meme and understand the Democrats are slowly damaging them for eternity.

40% business ownership seems unbelievably high.

I remember an article where someone was reminiscing about his youth, talking about the "black" part of town (post-war, pre-60s). Black-owned shops, a black-owned movie theater. Kids out playing in the streets, grandparents sitting out on the porch, either chatting or listening to the radio, keeping an eye on the kids. Black churches. Nicely dressed people. Just middle-class people being middle class.

So much lost. So much deliberately destroyed.

Black people used to have their own businesses in their own neighborhoods, just as all other ethnic groups did. Then the Dims convinced them that they were somehow being kept out of white businesses, so they started going mostly to white businesses. Of course, almost all the black businesses closed up for lack of business. The Dim plan worked.

The democrat party has always hated black people, every black person who is a democrat is used as propaganda by the democrats to clean up the image of the real party DemonKKKrats.

We need to give them reparations & their own, independent nation in Africa. Only way to ensure the communists can never do this again!

This is a great point.

Right after the slaves were "freed", they really embraced their freedom. They invested heavily in their communities and in learning to read/write properly. They valued education highly.

Now fast forward to Baltimore where barely 23% of their students are literate.

Marcus Garvey actually mobilized the blacks in the early 1900s and had a fleet of ships ready to take them all back to Africa. The FBI shut him down.
