What you say is correct, the plane the President flies on is AF1 when he is aboard. Can you remember any other President being flown on something other than one of the four engine 747 aircraft, especially overseas?
Absolutely correct. The 747 that is typically used as AF1 is a flying command center with capabilities that no other plane in the fleet has, including a lot of top secret tech for defense and communications. The president would always have that plane when outside the country, since it's a flying White House. I had a co-worker about 20 years ago who worked in that fleet, and to be chosen to be a mechanic was a huge honor, and they only took the best of the best for that assignment. He maintained a lot of the aircraft and said that the 747 (back then) was so advanced, a lot of the tech when parked was draped in black covers, so people could not see it.
That's certainly interesting to hear about the tech being covered. We know they don't cover anything on the hull, and for the various pictures while it's in use, granted we don't see everything, I would imagine there's some tech that people wouldn't know what it is.
There are areas on that plane that you need a top secret or above to even walk through. It's filled with a LOT of very sensitive surveillance gear. When AF1 is flying over a county, it's gathering a ton of signal intelligence.
Yeah the two VC-25A Air Force One jets are what is normally used by president and VP, there are others but as far as a i know biden has never been on those two below since he was supposed to be president, he did fly on one of them when he was obamas vp but not since seems like he has not been allowed on them which i have always found odd, even more odd is the press never mentions it, instead they usually try to obfuscate the issue by focusing on the fact that any jet the president is on is "Air Force One" but odd that the two best jets for protection are not used with fake biden.
Its also odd why bidens jets look shitty on the outside same as his car detail looks dirty.
Only two examples of this aircraft type are in service; they are highly modified Boeing 747-200Bs, designated VC-25A and having tail numbers 28000 and 29000. Although technically the Air Force One designation applies to the aircraft only while the president is on board, the term is commonly used to refer to the VC-25 in general.
I would love some planefags to check what has been going on with the 28000 and 29000 tail number jets, although not sure if the tail numbers be changed and applied to another lesser plane.

Yes, of course. Dude, that 747 is a huge plane that cannot land at a small airport. She's got to have enough runway to roll all that weight to a stop and, especially, get up to speed to take off again. She can't do it in a few hundred yards.
Trump did ride around in the smaller version sometimes, especially when visiting smaller towns in the USA. When he went to Prescott arizona he actually landed in Marine One, the helicopter.
To see the smaller AF1 planes, search under
President trump rally "air force one"
The Pensacola rally comes up first and he's got the two-engine AF1 right behind him.
Fly in 747 across the ocean, accompanied by the smaller plane(s).
Land 747 at a big airport in a friendly place, such as Frankfort Germany or Tokyo Japan.
Switch to smaller plane to go visit smaller nearby places.
Get back on 747 for the tranoceanic ride home.
The (real) POTUS travels with a large fleet of aircraft to carry The Beast, the guards who travel with him, etc etc. They can and do bring the smaller AF1 planes as well.
*Now, i don't know if Biden took the 747 to Europe this trip or not. I hope not. It's got way too much top secret stuff on it for him. But as I described above, taking both planes would not be unusual.

Great comments thanks for sharing ..

Transatlantic and transpacific travel too? That’s my question.

Unnecessary tap dance. The plane in the stumble video was a 747.
Yes, it happened several times from Reagan to Trump.
