It was only this past year my state did away with the stupid work permit law. We homeschool, so I'd have to drag my newly employed kiddo downtown to argue with the central office employees about their own procedure for issuing it to a homeschooler. They never got it right because they wanted AS MUCH INFORMATION ABOUT HOMESCHOOLERS AS POSSIBLE. I called them out on it every time, and my boys always knew it was going to be an uncomfortable encounter. Thankful the law is gone by child 3/6. Sheesh.
I worked on weekends in a restaurant kitchen doing dishes/pots and pans, making salads, deboning chicken, cleaning shrimp and the shells out of crabmeat when I was 12 years. I was too young for a work permit.
My mom was a waitress there so the woman who owned the place paid my mom extra money for my work. I also started babysitting at that time on weekend evenings. It kept me out of trouble, too!
Me and my buddies started at 8 yo or so cleaning up the job sites for my buddys dad who was a home builder. By 15 we were pouring garage and basement floors, pole barns, driveways, sidewalks, patios and porch caps. Ralph was paying us 10 bucks an hour. That was in 1980. Big money. All cash. No working papers. Didnt need to work during school year and that left time for my studies and hockey/football. Saved my money and bought my 67 Camaro. Still have it. The chicks digged it.
Even though I have a degree in engineering I still pour concrete.
I only made 50 cents an hour while sitting but that was back in the 1960's. And I don't know how much I made while working in the restaurant bc my mom got the money. But it was probably well under a dollar an hour, as well.
WTF why would they need a work permit?
I started working part time when I was 12.
It kept me busy and out of trouble.

In my state they are available at the school office. Pretty easy to obtain.
In theory it's about child labor laws. In fact, it's just more control.
Labor is good for children,if they have to much free time they get in trouble.

That good,it teaches a good work ethic.
They are so lucky to have her for their governor.
Yeah, I was supposed to get some kind of permit for working at 7-11 at night before I left high school.
But I didn't.
ICYMI, that's the argument against Voter ID laws.
Came here to say that ☝️
