Every single American sports league--the NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB, etc.--gets most of its revenue from overinflated television contracts, and sponsorship deals such as stadium naming rights and ads on jerseys and the playing surface.
They still turned a profit when they restarted play with zero fans during the 2020 lockdowns.
As a hockey fan and recreational player I would remind the San Jose Sharks out there in Silly-CON Valley:
