Elon Musk, Apple co-founder, other tech experts call for pause on 'giant AI experiments': 'Dangerous race'
Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak are among more than 1,000 tech entrepreneurs and artificial intelligence experts who are calling for a pause on the development of AI systems more powerful than OpenAI's GPT-4.
Teacher here!
There are ways to get around students using A.I. to do all of their thinking for them. What will likely happen in the near future is that we will return to oral assessments where students have to recite knowledge in the moment without the use of a computer to aide in their memory. We will also likely test their analytical skills in essay writing by having students write their essays in class, and on paper. Source material can be provided in print format for students.
Outside of assessment windows, I think A.I. can actually be a huge benefit to students. I imagine a future in which every student has their own A.I. tutor that can work with them at their level to help them learn various processes and concepts in reading, writing, and math.
I don't see A.I. ever replacing teachers though. There is still an important human factor to learning that should always remain. Classrooms are great places to learn communication skills, professionalism, and ethical behavior. (If you've got a good teacher!) Robots can't teach that effectively.
Teachers will be replaced by AI, that's part of the plan.
Given the quality of most teachers and professors now.
It might be a legitimate improvement. And that is actually the scary part of the whole process.
This is probably a conversation that realistically should have occurred in the late 90s and early 2000s. That ship has sailed. Especially as the military and defense possibilities of AI become more and more readily apparent. Especially in regards to cybersecurity and cyber warfare.
They’ve already had repeated instances of ChatGPT being used to write entirely new Malware programs in a matter of minutes. Now imagine that scaled up to a matter a seconds.
While having the conversation can’t hurt. The possibility of halting more advanced programs and research is probably fairly minimal at this point
If it can write malware, it can also write anti-malware. You could prompt it to write billions of new malwares that have never existed before, and then turn around and have it incorporate this knowledge into an all encompassing anti-malware program. Better yet . . . Have it create an anti-malware program that learns from its mistakes and can internalize new malwares into its database of defenses.
Maybe people should review some science fiction for a healthy dose of reality. Like Morpheus explaining the history of the machine wars and Star Trek TOS series episode "The Perfect Computer".
If Musk, Wozniack, and a thousand of their peers are scared, maybe everybody else should be. I personally think AI should be aborted and research into it be a capital crime.
Tech Pede here, and AI gives me the heebiest of jeebies.
So these are powerful figures "calling" and "urging" who exactly? Lets unmask exactly who is behind the AI push.
Scary article on topic. https://newatlas.com/technology/chatgpt-plugin-internet-access/
It threatens a teachers very existence. ChatGPT is replacing them and they don’t even know it. Think MySpace and Facebook.
Only if you want to turn students into robots.
A.I. is great at logical concepts and regurgitating information. It is abysmal at human concepts and qualities.
I don't foresee teachers being replaced. I see teachers being enhanced by A.I. though!

Well chat gpt is owned by Microsoft:

Yes, Genocide Billy. WCGW?
A.I. flies in the face of God.
In the meantime, feed the AI nothing but junk b.s. and fk up its learning.
