His father, Prescott, a Wall Street banker, attempted a coup in the 30s. Instead of being indicted for treason, he became a senator from Connecticut.
And the Vietnam war. The golden triangle in SE Asia was where 80% of the world Opium supply was grown.
The loss of SE Asia forced the move to Afghanistan.
