I remember this good-looking man from a year ago when you posted his picture. You can see his beautiful spirit through his eyes and smile. It's wonderful of you to honor his memory like this, anon. Next year, when I see his face appear on GAW, I'll think "Uncle Ray!".
To him and so many other brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice... A grateful nation thanks you. God bless. 🙏✝️✨

Thanks pede:)
My grandpa was at Iwo Jima. A marine. I’m not sure of the unit he was in. But he survived the war. I know my dad said that he was an island hopper. They lost many men per island they took. I asked him once did he see the flag raised at Iwo Jima…he said everybody saw that flag bring raised. Even the enemy.
My father-in-law was a Marine there also in 5th division. The Japanese had bunkers underground and came out of them at night. He also saw flag raised.
May we all do our part to remember his sacrifice and the thousands of valiant Marines who gave their lives in the Pacific.
Such a beautiful young man...💔🙏
My favorite uncle came back from Vietnam hooked on heroin. But died years later from agent orange.
I lost a cousin to cancer caused by exposure to Agent Orange in 'Nam. After coming home he became somewhat of a recluse and refused to talk about that hellhole.
Fun fact: "-jima" is just the Japanese suffix for "island."
So it's not "the island of Iwo Jima." It's Iwo-jima, or Iwo Island.
But popular usage is a bitch.
God Bless Ray! A hero and a tremendous example of dedication, bravery, and selflessness. Thank you Ray!
I'm so sorry, brother. So much loss. And this is also why I will vote for Trump for a third time. He understands the human loss of war.
How sad to hear of another hero succumbing to old age. My sincere condolences to you and your family.
My goodness, your uncle Ray must of been well into his 90s or even older. Time is always too short it seems. I love to hear the tales of men like this. My father still reveals secrets of when he was in the Pusan Offensive in Korea. If not for those wounds he suffered, he would have never met mom in the hospital. God works in mysterious ways, no?
He did not make it off the island is the way I read the post.
He actually never made it TO the island:( He was killed in the surf trying to get ashore....... like sooo many others.
Where is the post? I recall reading his passing in 2014.
This post. "During the landing"
Alright, my error. Flipping screens must of got my wires crossed. Nevertheless, a beautiful soul lost to tragic war. How sad. Imagine the grieving family and loved ones.
Understand fren, happens to me all the time.
Yes, very tragic
