There's nothing they can do if even a significant minority of the population reject it at the beginning.
They're not just competing against BRICS at that point but against us.
Our biggest problem is everyone running around pushing this narrative of "They're going to do ____ and there's nothing we can do about it."
If enough people take that attitude and buy into this narrative they will become apathetic and allow the DS to get their way. We need to stop thinking we're being pragmatic or smart by saying that kind of thing. It's just feeding into their plans.
I’m using cash as much as possible. I was previously using my debit card for “convenience”, but now realize that “convenience” is not in my best interest.
This is how we fight back. Not only do we need to reject their CBDC, but we need to be transacting in cash as much as possible. Local businesses will think twice going full digital if most their customers are only using cash for payment.
A few of the local businesses in my area openly prefer that their customers pay cash and will give you discounts if you do. I try to give them my business when possible.
This is how it should be done until we get out of this clown world. That's good to hear you have local mom and pop stores that can still think for themselves and see what's coming down the pipeline. I'd support them 100%.
You're not the only one. I've been noticing a distinct increase in use of cash at the shop where I work. Used to be about 30% of sales were cash. For the last few months that's been increasing. It's almost half now.

Plus, giving up a physical item (physical cash) is much more of a deterrent to over spending than swiping or tapping or other electronic methods.
Indeed, the days of being a card ninja, swiping furiously, needs to stop.
