If you want to really trigger them, that plastic in the pacific is caused by recycling. All that recycled plastic was put on ships and we paid the Chinese to take care of it.
They just dumped it in the ocean, as it wasn't profitable to recycle. The currents carried it to the cental pacific.
I read an article about it years ago, published in Asia, it's since been scrubbed from the internet,I assume as I haven't been able to find it.

I read that one artical and it made sense to me. They also quit shipping it to china,so the problem should solve itself over time, as most plastic breaks down with sunlight.
And it has a better chance of being exposed to sunlight in the ocean than in a landfill.
Not saying it's the best option, just a little better than the bury option.
You can really cause a short circuit when you tell them the garbage island is the hatchery and juvenile home for a countless number of fish and other marine life. And that without it this is a deep sea desert supporting very little life.
