I myself was without power until sunday afternoon, and I live right near the local hospital if that tells you anything. Some people still don't have power.
I literally just got this email from a state congressman informing me about "cooling centers " where residents without power can go to get relief from the heat (it was literally over a hundred degrees yesterday when I got to work if that tells you anything)
Dunno how useful it is, but it's interesting that the story has been basically ignored by the mainstream press that an entire swathe of one of the most populated states isn't a bigger story than it is...
Did 14 days without power with the ice storm during the winter. The summer would be Worse! It is unbearable with the humidity.
That would sure wake people up.
don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining, we made due, and others had edit: and some still have) it far worse ( I even rigged up a couple salvaged solar panels to keep my phone charged😂 I was working on a survival battery using aluminum cans and copper wire, but the pickle juice I was using as an electrolyte was attracting too many flies...)
Dude, that’s some serious macgyvering.
just a (very)little electrical knowledge and some internet research, lol.
Impressive !
just some basic electrical knowledge and a little bit of research can do wonders, lol.
Honestly, all you need is a pair of metels far enough apart int he galvanic series, a little bit of water, and, ideally, a decent electrolyte, and you can make your own batteries if you need to.
as for the solar panels, the hardest part is getting enough light to make them useful, lmao. I couldn't even get enough juice to get my phone to recognize there was power flowing till about 8 int he morning, lol (my cells are small. Planning to get some more come payday.
Just buy a battery pack at harbor freight for jump starting your car.
They have USB ports and should charge your stuff for a month....
I have a booster, lol
problem is I burned through that in a few hours trying not to cook, lmao.
I'm looking into getting one with a built-in solar panel, lol.
Seems crazy since Weather channel pushes fear porn weeks before any big storm… glad you have your power back!
me too, lmao. I can "rough it" if I have to, but I appreciate the convienience of modern electric power, lmfao.
I'm sure they'll find a way to spin that shit without doing anything remotely useful...
might have been the same storm cluster, think i heard about that...
I read TX eas asking people to turn electricity off for periods for brownouts alone.
Dunno, I have swepco, lol
My mom and several other relatives live in Tulsa.
They have been without power since Sat night.
Over 100k without power as of yesterday
man...that's awful...I hope you understand I wasn't complaining or bitching about "woe is me". I just thought it interesting that the story got so little coverage...
Buddy of mine and another family member live in a suburb of Tulsa and just got their power back on.
I agree, these storms don't get the national attention they should have.
I think CBS covered one or two, but neither of the ones we are talking about. It appears we had a large rash of storms that are only being covered locally.
kinda makes me wonder if, strategically, the climate change narrative is a dud at the moment...otherwise, you'd think it'd be wall-to-wall coverage...
lmao, fair.
I'm not worried about it, just find it interesting is all. This is usually the kinda thing that at least gets pushed for "muh climate change" fear porn...
We were getting hit with a severe thunderstorm almost daily for a week. Wild weather.
Most of it missed us, thankfully, but that batch thursday night basically tore everything up. There's still a tree limb partially across the road where I drive home from work. (you have to change lanes, they've got cones set up)
Parts of oklahoma as well. I have friends at work that still have their power off.
man that sucks...I got me a nice farmer's tan in only two days of extra sun, lol.
No joke, I barely slept the whole time, because it was too hot during the day, and I'm a natural hoot owl, so when the power came on, I basically got in the air and crashed, lol.
