You cant accidentally get on the dark web
Just repeating what she told me. Read u/Wtf_socialismreally reply and maybe that is what happened.
She was lying to you. You can't accidentally get on the dark web.
Course you can. The “dark web” is the “normal” web. Literally web servers.
What makes it “dark” is that they are uncrawled by search engines, often direct IPs to the server hosting the files.
I could email a link to a server file that’s got nofollows on the htaccess and it’d be “dark web”
"Investigating pizzagate" means "investigating the horrors our elite class inflicts on children", so yes. I totally believe your daughter could have found Frazzledrip in that circumstance. But you cant really call it an accident at that point
All I know is she didn't 'intentionally' look to find it. She came upon it accidentally. She was the one that said it was on the Dark Web so whether she got on there herself, or someone posted it from the Dark Web onto another site I do not know. But I grant you I am going to ask her.
Not that I want to, but I’ve always wondered how one gets on the dark web. Does it take some sort of trick or a certain search term?
The most common way to "get on the dark web" is an app called Tor. It lets you browse the regular web anonymously or go to sites on the dark web. Here is a blurb from Norton antivirus...
"Regular browsers can't access dark web websites. Instead, the dark web uses what's called The Onion Router hidden service protocol. “Tor” servers — derived from “The Onion Router” — are undetectable from search engines and offer users complete anonymity while surfing the web."
So you can see the app itself is named after the communication protocol used by the "dark web". It's the equivalent of driving to the bank in an armored truck but claiming you arent planning to leave with a lot of money.
It could be true but forgive me if I dont believe you
Thanks for this! I forgive you, but believe me when I say I have no desire, so much so, that I won’t even Google “how to access the dark web” lol.
This sounds legit and all, but wouldn’t you still be tracked just by downloading the app?
It's possible anytime someone guarantees anonymity that they are secretly logging user info somewhere, but it's "the answer" right now. Maybe in 5 or 10 years someone will break a story saying the nsa tracks all Tor navigation and always has, so everyone bails and a new solution is found.
I downloaded Tor once and to be honest it was not user friendly compared to regular web browsers. I cant believe anyone would use it just for the heck of it
Yes. You would have to have layers of security that protects your anonymity with zero guarantee or proof that it works against federal/military agencies.
We already know they are pushing hard for just using a VPN getting you on watchlists, and a VPN despite its marketing does very little to actually protect your privacy, but just adds a relatively small hurdle for anyone who wants your information.
Click on an onion link while using tor? Seems plausible to me...
People who use tor are already on the dark web on purpose. So it's not like "my innocent daughter just magically saw hillary doing terrible things before breakfast".
Well I know non tech people who use the tor browser. They know enough to browse "anonymous" but aren't trying to surf the dark webs...
If they really knew enough to "browse anonymous", they'd probably not just be using TOR. We already know at least one node has been compromised and have for years.
