If I recall correctly, John Lennon in 1966 made the mistake of saying the Beatles were "More popular than Jesus". It was a huuuge mistake on his part and nearly destroyed overnight the Beatles. A very public apology ensued. The message was loud and clear, Don't mess with the faithful concerning Jesus.
