So let's talk about a society and civilization. What happens when the people who support and help build a community are overrun by let's say strangers or outsiders who don't give an F about community or laws. Let's say a stranger from some s hole country whare stealing is the only way to survive. What happens when this person finds themselves in a place whare stealing is not OK? Do you see the problem, one society is being erased by the other.
When I worked in retail, our " loss prevention team" told us to never try to stop shoplifters ourselves. They said there was too much chance that we would get hurt (putting the store at risk of paying workers comp or being sued by the employee) or the shoplifter would get hurt and sue the store.
So the stores have determined they have less to lose by letting the shoplifter go (and giving all the videos/info they have of them to the police) than they do by letting employees stop the shoplifter.
Yep. That's the stance I've experienced most frequently. I agree with needing to keep employees safe, I just wish the stores would crackdown on the shoplifting.
Policy is don't stop them from stealing hundreds of dollars worth of stuff when we can file a claim to the insurance company that it was in the thousands.
This is standard now for most companies and is zero tolerance. Sucks for the old lady and I sure she meant nothing harmful but it’s a risk management situation they would rather deal with he theft that they can write off than to have it escalated. She had been educated that’s why she was termed. It’s the same for armed robberies give them what they want and don’t escalate.

Protip: they can't fire you in you aren't an employee. However you local Soros funded DA will probably prosecute you for it.
