And apparently Prince tried to micromanage her career and turn her into his acolyte/protege. She got into a fist fight with him, if I remember correctly… She was definitely ahead of the masses when it came to calling out child abuse in the Catholic Church
There were enough rumors at the time for some of us to think that she was probably right, but most people were unaware and the world wasn't ready for her display.
Wish we all knew more about her background and why she exited the mainstream scene. Her story cannot be told by her anymore but hopefully others can shed some light.
Prince gave that to her. He wrote a ton of songs and some of them he thought were perfect for other people.
He wrote songs for Sinead, The Bangles, Madonna, Stevie Nicks, Chaka Khan, Sheia E, Sheena Easton, The Time, Celine Dion, Martika, Alicia Keys, Cyndi Lauper, Patti Labelle, Kenny Rogers, Kate Bush, and several other less-well-known artists. Some of those songs ended up being among the most famous songs those artists were known for, like Nothing Compares 2 U, or Manic Monday.
His estate is still putting out songs he wrote and recorded but kept in his giant vault in Paisley Park. There are rumors that up to 8,000 unreleased songs are in there. They could release a new song every day for the next 20 years and still not be done releasing them.
Sorry - I miss him. One of the greatest songwriters, musicians, guitarists, and vocalists of all time. If you've never watched the video from the 2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame you are missing a treat. His solo is awesome on the guitar.
So sad that his pain and addiction was the winner. A real loss.
I’m sorry I never saw him at one of those small shows he did in Las Vegas. I heard they were tiny, like 50-100 people, and could go for hours…would’ve been unreal to happen upon one.
No problem - I listen to it every few months. The backstory on that appearance is pretty funny, and when he threw his guitar Tom Petty thought it disappeared - he never saw it come down. Quite the odd set of stars and talent on stage that night.
She was ahead of the crowd when it came to being awakened. Think she sang Prince's song which highlighted her vocal talents.

She got into a fist fight with Prince? I never knew that. I could have taken that little dude.

Wow, extremely enjoyable, thanks.
