It was a bill to raise the threshold for constitutional amendments to 60% of the popular vote and also require sponsorship from all 88 counties to get it on the ballot. Voter turnout was only two and a half million or so. Trump got 3.2 million votes in Ohio and 2020. The Liberals are going to have a meltdown when they try and get an abortion Amendment passed in November and it goes down in flames.
My understanding is Issue 1 would have required a supermajority of 60% or more to amend the State Constitution. Currently it takes a simple majority.
My belief is whomever placed it on the ballot in a special election did so to make sure it failed. That way they could act like they wanted the higher bar, knowing all along special election turnout doesn’t favor conservatives.
Ohioan here. This debacle is just another massive F up from the Ohio GOP. This whole thing was just thrown up haphazardly. The Marxists were the only one with a game plan, and they jammed it. The GOP effort was pathetic. They couldn't even get enough signs for people who wanted them. I sincerely hope that there is a boomerang, or preferably a backlash. The lack of critical thinking skills exhibited by Republican politicians in this state is not only appalling but alarming.
Well I read from lifesite news that the liberals outspent the conservatives 3-1.
My thought is this. IF the elections of 2024 are safe then this may be moot. The leftists cannot steal the vote on the abortion issue (nor any of your other votes). You will get a better picture of where your state stands on the issue one way or the other.
I am from Ohio, I do believe this will boomerang in a future regular election. In the mean time, this does bring awareness to the fact that is Ohio's constitution is currently among the easiest to change, therefore inviting the constitutional amendment path for those of minority opinion who can't get what they want legislatively, or within a regular election.
And again the big cities made the fucking decision I am so sick of the big cities running the whole fucking state this article has a picture in it that shows you where it passed and where it failed
We are not from Ohio what is issue one?
Care to be more specific and describe Issue 1 in 20 words or less? Or a link?

OK, thanks.

21 counties is all it took too win.. that doesn't sound like a majority to me there's 88
The 21 counties that voted no is where all the people live. The rest are corn fields.
