VERY RARE
Especially in the entertainment field
Didn't sell his soul.
He certainly has not. Which is ironic because the song lyrics talk about him selling his soul. The one man who has kept his soul sings about selling it.

Amen. And who's to say that (if) he sold it to him that they wouldn't take it off the airways.
They would try and control him 100%..!
Yes. That's why I believe he turned it down. He knows that later once we gets the world back and people are people again, he can then reap his great reward.
Oh they still gonna try, we can count on that
You inspire people Chris/Oliver. Thank you.🥰
hope his message inspires times 10 million.
I think it is. I've watched so many reaction videos. White, black, brown, yellow. This song hits everyone hard, right in the soul.
95% of people know exactly what he meant when he said "minors on an island somewhere". 100% know exactly who wants total control.
Naturally, we are going to see more songs like this. Not just in a country genre. It's being studied fiercely by anyone with an ounce of musical talent. The conviction in the voice, the pain on his face, the raw truth of the lyrics, the simplicity of the surroundings, the message of bringing people together, the play on words, A political theme that everyone on the planet can relate to.
I've been watching those also. You can SEE how it cuts straight to the soul. Also seems to be hitting men harder than women overall.
23 million and counting
A song that makes me want to both pick my guitar up and put it down at the same time. Hard feeling to explain. Like, such an inspirational story that this blew up, makes me want to write more, but at the same time, he wrote basically the exact song I would love to write in a way much better than I ever could
A whole lot of pain can push you to make that connection. I mean if his life were going well, that song wouldn‘t have been written.
Not saying you need more pain, but the authentic nature of how it came about includes all that pain, drinking, high taxes, etc.

P.S. His name is not Oliver. That's his Grand-Dad's name. :)
Name is Chris.
I believe he said that it was his grandfather's name.
Ah, yes. Grandfather, not Father. Correct. Will change my post.
This will not be a popular opinion. I like the message, the frustration we all feel and we all know that something is wrong with the world today. But I can't help feeling this has a wag the dog type element to it. I hope I'm wrong but I could see this guy getting co-opted for political means. The spark that motivates a few to act, or maybe that's what we need. The fatigue is getting to me.
I think he has about the same chance to be co-opted as any of us here would if we were in the same position. It's possible. But it seems he is more concerned with the issues themself than the money. And I think he just wants to be left alone, which ironically will be very difficult now.
He already turned down a music deal. It was 6-8 million. Which is trash compared to what most artists make. He'll probably ending up selling more than that on itunes by the end of this year.
He's definitely created a spark, and fired shots across the bow. I doubt it will be enough to change anything in the short term. But I hope to God there will be a snowball effect from others who are inspired.
