Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat

-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.

Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
For much of Ohio, and probably much of the country, school starts this week or next week. At one time, about 90% of the country sent their children to public schools. Now, those who have been awakened know better than to do this. As a retired public school teacher who does itinerant tutoring, I have been approached by at least 8 home-school cohorts and I will probably hear from more before Labor Day. I want to start a discussion if your friends and family are leaving public schools for alternative education. Do you feel that the normies have seen some wrong with the public schools and take the step to pull their children out of them?
Looking at school district stats in our state (Arkansas), it appears that most districts have about a 10-15% homeschool rate (although stats from the current year aren't up, so I don't know if it's gone up or down). Most people I know say they would hate homeschooling because they don't want to be around their kids that much.
My husband and I have chosen homeschooling for our two youngest, although my oldest will stay in public school (her dad is a douche). To be fair, though, I have always planned to homeschool my children if and when the Lord provided the means, and my husband and I were both homeschooled so it seems like the natural choice for us. I don't think he was always sold on the idea (something about weird homeschool kids, lol), but today's educational system has definitely changed his mind.
What would you guess is the percentage of homeschooled students by now after all of this Covidiocracy crap?
Just from my personal experience in my local community, I would guess 15%. I would guess that another 10% are enrolling their children in parochial or charter schools.
Absolutely.
Last year was my last year teaching.
I homeschool my own children, and I tutor for homeschoolers, public, and private school students. I also substitute in the local public schools.
GET YOUR CHILDREN OUT NOW.
We are welcoming new homeschooling families on a weekly basis in my town.
