Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
What does that mean? I'll see if my barber does it next time I go.
The only thing I can think of it that (due to Covid?) they now use disposable capes. Can't see what else it could be.
Wow disposable capes. You won't find that in US at least not where I am. That's one thing that kills me, everything used these days is plastic and ends up in the trash yet the law makers are yelling climate change and want to make gasoline motors, gas appliances, etc obsolete. If you have to give urine samples at doctor many people use the plastic bucket called a hat. I've reached that point and always ask for it. I couldn't believe they were thrown in the regular trash. Yet again I can because recycling was always hoax just something else to make people fall in line.
I remember a lot, (at 73 there is a lot to remember) My first job in a hospital was in 1968, at 18. There was no plastic. Part of the job of a nurses aid was to bring all metal and glass medical supplies, glass syringes, rubber tubing, bed pans, urinals, enema cans with rubber tubing, catheters, etc, to the Central Suppply. Everything was put in an autoclave for sterilization, so you would bring the stuff there, and get a cart that had wrapped in cloth and sealed with tape all the sanitized supplies. IV bags were the only disposable thing. And guess what? Compared to today, there were no rampant infections spreading through hospitals like there is now. Bacteria loves plastic. It forms a biofilm in less than 24 hours on the surface. Just take any plastic and leave it wet for that long, in a day it will feel slimy to the touch. That is biofilm, it turns faster than glass, and is also more porous than glass. The plastic used in hospitals does not go into a biohazard waste receptacle, only if it has body fluids or or a used needle that goes in the sharps container. So this used plastic is not incinerated, it just sits in the trash until the housekeeping takes it away. Sits there like a petri dish. I imagine a "green fee" is for things that have to be disposed of, like chemicals and dyes and "recyclables", empty nail polish bottles, which still contain the polish, etc.
I've been away a few days. Thanks for sharing your experience working in a hospital compared to today. I knew about the waste but not the high infection rates in hospitals. Makes sense why people get serious infections after surgery or being admitted. I keep detox herbs here for emergencies. In February I was in the hospital three nights and had two related surgeries in March and when I got home started the detox.
We have different bins for different rubbish in the UK, you can be fined for using the wrong ones. Guess where it all ends up. Definitely more about compliance.
We aren't fined here. You should see the trash on the roads in USA. In my opinion it's getting worse. Most of society has just gone to trash! We have a saying in the south "white trash" that's as bad as the N word as far as a negative description of a person. I have lots of white trash family I don't claim. I'm not saying it's one color or the other throwing trash out. I mean it's the label of "white trash" type of person that's becoming more and more the norm. No morals, theft, car jacking, robbery, murder is at an all time high here. I wouldn't even go pump gas alone right now. (Got a little off topic) What I'm getting at is the recycling scam still going strong and middle class people are still recycling yet people that throw trash out don't get fined. I read an article over five years ago about recycling. For decade or more USA was paying China to take our recycling. China stopped taking it and that's when it started going into the landfills. I didn't know this years ago but always laughed at people separating trash. Red box for recycling and it's going in the same trash truck as your garbage bags🤦🏻♀️ We have long ways to go before people wake up. Don't get me started on fossil fuels scam and earth is millions years old. Blessings to you fren☺️
