solar eclipse, ring of fire for a section of the USA today even. It was wierd, I took a few photos of it partially covered earlier and the camera glare had a perfect image of a much smaller subject but in negative format and a perfect looking 1quarter moon or something next to it.
OMG that's what it is!! I can't look at the sun without hurting my eyes but I looked it up, i'm not in the path of the total but I'm right next to it. It's definitely effecting the way the light looks. LOL I knew I wasn't crazy!
Isn't it nice to have somewhere to go and not sound crazy to get you settled on things from time to time. NP! Millions out there will not of known before hand and I am sure you were not the only that felt a bit freaked out. haha
Its called an annular eclipse of the sun The moon is at it's furthest point in its orbit from earth, so it doesn't match 1:1 as during a total eclipse, but leaves a ring of fire surrounding it The path it will take in the U.S.A is I believe from Oregon down to the gulf. In my neck of the woods it will be about 50% of totality, but its overcast, so it will just get dark soon.
If you are in The Northern Hemisphere, you are entering Autumn. Given the Earth’s tilt on it axis and Earth’s seasonal movement around the sun, as we enter autumn the sun’s rays are filtered through more “atmosphere.”
The sun’s afternoon zenith is now more southerly and our days will become shorter until December 21’st. The sun’s light will appear more golden and diffuse because the light is getting to us more “diagonally” through more atmosphere.
It has always been this way, but I suspect as one who is (relatively) recently awakened…like myself… we are all freshly attuned to threats, and things that used to go un-noticed activate our early “threat detection” circuitry.
Ha ok just making sure. I mean I respect being completely removed from the normal news cycle, but I’d have at least wondered if there was an eclipse if the world started getting dark. 🤷🏻♂️
it didn't get dark though, it was fully sunny, but dim, hard to explain, i thought my vision was going or something. It's was subtle, but noticeable. Not a cloud in the sky, so it didn't make sense. But yeah i've been so wrapped up with what i have going on that i didn't know about it.
It’s not hard to explain, it literally happens the exact same way every time. We’ve all experienced this before so you really don’t have to explain lol. An eclipse doesn’t mean it becomes nighttime. Just becomes more like a late afternoon type of hue. Almost a surreal type of light.
sorry, but I'm also a homesteader, and was focusing on switching seasons in the garden, it's a massive job i do twice a year, takes me 4-6 weeks to finish, and I spend all my time outdoors getting it done, literally didn't know there was an eclipse.
It's an eclipse.

Sorry for the redneck pho tography. Had to take pic thru a welding mask while holding it up.
I use one of the auto clamping adjustable drop in lenses for a welding mask to shoot eclipses. Works pretty well.

Or eclipse.
yeah, i'm familiar with autumn, i spend my life outdoors, pretty well attuned with nature... it was the eclipse. I just didn't know about it.
In Evey child's picture the sun is yellow ...it's been white all year
Racist!
Lol is this real?
yes it's real, i didn't know about the eclipse and I'm close to the prime zone apparently.

Lol
