The Romans would stitch a man inside the carcass of a dead mule and leave it in the sun, so it would both rot and cook, and everything inside of it would rot and cook.
I'll just leave this here.
Is this how they invented turducken?
I thought we agreed to never speak of this again....
Another lesson in culinary arts.

BULLET IN BACK OF HEAD - NO, SHOT BETWEEN EYES IS BETTER!!!
Isn't that where they also put a chicken and snake or something in with them?
They had a variety of ways to kill humans.
You may be referring to the starved rats that are then given only one way out of their cages, and that way is through the mid-section of the victim. The starving rat disembowels the human in its bid for freedom/hunger.
Oh wow I knew the Roman's didn't play around but this is a whole new level. I love learning about ancient history thanks for sharing.
Staking folks out for the tide, crabs or ants was also on the menu.
In an episode of Outlander a pirate was staked out for the tide. I call myself a history buff I can't believe I didn't know this.
Oh that is very real.
