many people here are too young to remember the hoopla the media caused over michael jackson. in the media rush to get reader views, they published any bullshit that came along, regardless of factual basis. when it was proven later on that it was bullshit, media sources put out tiny blurbs of retraction, but carried on publishing the next round of bullshit. this might be one of the reasons Trump is so bitter with the msm and calls them fake news. because they are.
Congress, or even state legislators need to make laws to change that.
Media outlets that post/print proven fake news, and has to retract- then the retraction becomes that media outlets "front page" news story for 1 month, no advertisements, nor other stories can appear on that "front page" during their punishment period.
Maybe add a big fine to that law too.

That is a good idea - whatever emphasis a news organization used to break the story should be the same emphasis they use to make the retraction..
Yup - very common for the retraction to be buried 6 pages deep in a small notice not easily spotted.
