If you are over 40 break out a map and see what's there.
any stadiums, sports complex, night golf course, fair grounds?
I don't know that particular spot super well, but this light is very unusual. I've seen that sky many times on drives home and it's never been bright like this.
I have no idea but please report back when you find out. That looks wild.
If you really wanted to know, you'd drive over there and get a closer look. Also record your exact position, and then go look at a satellite view to see what's over there.
How far is it from Cheyenne Mountain base?
OP mentioned West of Loveland/Fort Collins. Which would imply Geographic proximity to that area.
Cheyenne Mountain is well to the South near Colorado Springs.
Doesn’t mean it isn’t one of those Military/Government facilities that don’t Officially exist though
There’s also a whole lot of Private Land and small neighborhoods/communities before it shifts into the Rockies State Park.
Maybe someone is doing construction work and it’s the glow of high powered work lights. It’d be a tad unusual for work to be done at night but not completely unheard of. Especially if it’s a tight schedule
Same weird stuff happened yesterday in minnesota: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-12753091/nasa-sonic-boom-flash-minnesota.html
sonic boom and flash of super bright light.
I’ve been dealing with construction equipment including every type of of light system used in construction for over 28yrs. At first look that does not appear to be construction lights. Far too bright and far too large of an area. Looks closer to a full on professional stadium lit up for a national broadcast. And there isn’t anything that fits that bill in that area. The cloud cover does mean light is being reflected back so it could be somewhat of an optical illusion, but my gut still says that isn’t construction light towers.
Based on what general knowledge I have of the area (9 yr Coloradan) and Google Earth I will hypothesize and say fracking operation and the geography is bouncing the light of the work site(s)
Night ski resort?
Please forgive the camera quality, but this is West of Loveland/Ft.Collins in the mountains, around 8PM (sun set 2.5 hours ago) and the light is way brighter than even the lights over Loveland.
Any idea what this is or what's going on?
Maybe construction? Some of the high powered work lights can get pretty bright.
Satellite View shows a section of Route 34 West of Estes Park closed for construction. At least according to what the map is telling me. Are you near there by any chance?
Any chance of further narrowing down a geographical location without doxxing yourself?
Not construction... that's the Rocky Mountains.
With how long it was on (might still be on) I'm thinking it might be construction... but still, wasn't expecting something that bright
Concert
Okay, a year later but if you were wondering I found out this month. It's just dam work on the Chimney Hallow project. Even drove up to see it myself, so there we go.
Could it be the construction of new water reservoirs and related infrastructure in that area? "Research Wanted"...put this in your browser: "large water projects northern colorado fort collins loveland" Something like this, maybe?: https://www.reporterherald.com/2022/05/23/work-in-preparation-for-glade-reservoir-to-begin-in-june/
