Had a coal mining uncle who told everyone to buy EV because that was boosting his stocks in the company. When younger zoomers were confused, he just said that power needed to come from somewhere & he had many shares in the mines he streamlined.
Moving the emissions to a remote location is a benefit, just not the benefit that is touted. EVs were supposed to lead to net zero, but that is far from the truth. And if you change the focus to other types of emissions that are real pollutants, then you have to discuss the serious environmental impacts of both mining and refining the various inputs required to make the batteries, which far exceed the impacts of manufacturing an ICE car. And what of the monetary and environmental costs of building a grid (generating and distribution assets) and charging infrastructure capable of making EVs as convenient as ICE vehicles, assuming you can reduce charging times to tank fill up times?
Nothing is free in this world. EVs are many many decades away from a viable alternative, if ever.
Let’s all remember a wind turbine is net negative. The turbine will never in its operational life generate enough electrical power to offset the energy spent, most of it diesel and coal, that was utilized to mine, transport, manufacture, erect, maintain and dispose of the tower, blades, turbine, motors, foundation and transmission system.
EV = Extra Volitale
Nice! and extremely accurate.

We call them EXTERNAL combustion engines. The heat used to create the electricity occurs away from the vehicle.
Battery vehicles
CAAS - Cars as a Service lol.
Saddly. Thats exactly what they are aiming for.
All energy ----- at one point in time came from a nuclear reaction.
They rebranded to say Zero emissions from the tailpipe.
Because of what you pointed out and because they have more emissions from other sources (tires/brakes/ECT)
0 LOCAL emission vehicle, is one of the few valid selling points for EVs.
For generations humans have dug down their waste away from where they lived.
The petroleum industry is yet to find a way to combust fossil fuels without creating local emissions that seriously damages our health.
To be able to move those emissions somewhere else from where human lives, is not the “own” you think it is regarding EVs.
I know this comment will be downvoted into oblivion, I don’t care.
It’s impossible to have a decent discussion regarding EVs on this site.
The only truth is calling them a Non Combustion Engine. Even the electric motor has emissions. And some of those arent tested for.

Local emissions are not the problem in most places. At least here in the US.
What do you mean?
There are plenty of places in the US with less than moderate air quality.

The air is way way cleaner than it used to be. I don't see it as a problem, gas cars these days are very clean.
The embedded costs.
Exporting pollution making it someone else's problem. It's a common theme these days.
You can build power plants where almost 0 people lives.
Then you can use that energy where millions live, like NY, SF, Austin or Hong Kong.
I don’t see a problem with this.
In the engineering community, some folks are referring to them as DE vehicles, for Displaced Emissions.
That’s a good description
Their electricity comes from wind farms.......
Must have triggered a commie.

I know but the commies believe they are magic and last forever...
I hate the damn things they have them all over oklahoma and texas.
Think of all the dead birds!!!
Lol. Except when the winds not blowing.
