Exactly. Inauguration is nothing special. We don't even need to have that event for a President to hold office. They only need to take the oath Before executing the office. They could do that with some witnesses, the night before, and it would be perfectly valid.

The 20th Amendment specifically says the president's term ends and their successor's term begins at noon on Jan 20.
