Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat

-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.

If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I got in trouble with Costco tonight. They called the manager on me. What did I do you may ask? I walked in the store through the Exit door. They want all the cattle to enter through the Enter door and to exit through the Exit door. I guess I was impeding the flow of cattle. I told the manager that I have an anxiety disorder; meaning, I must come out the same door that I go in. But since I'm not allowed to exit through the Enter door, I choose to enter through the Exit door and exit through the Exit door. I don't see no major harm in doing so.
I was all ready for them to call the police on me. I wasn't worried about it because I know the police deal with the mentally ill everyday and they have a lot more understanding than your typical corporate store employee has. I told the manager that he was discriminating against me for being mentally ill. He asked me if I showed the employees at the door my Coscto membership card. I said yes, but they weren't interested in my membership card. I told him that under no uncertain terms, they wanted me to turn around and exit the store immediately.
We have equal rights for women. We have equal rights for blacks. We have equal rights for the physically disabled. We have equal rights for gays. We have equal rights for trans. But we have no equal rights for the mentally ill.
I’m not sure what the big deal was. Many people enter through the exit door, especially if you have a return. I guess you could’ve just told him you needed to go to customer service. 🤷♀️
You are very much correct; it is no big deal at all. The doorways at Costco are very large and plenty large enough for one person to enter the store through the exit door once a month.
Is that the first time you've been confronted? Were you able to make an arrangement with the manager in order to go in and out the same door in the future?
It was the first time being confronted at Costco. After explaining my situation to the manager, I was allowed to proceed further into the store. In the future there's a very good chance that I will be confronted again and have to explain my situation to a different manager.
There was a time I was confronted at Walmart, but at Walmart I was attempting to enter the store through the exit with a shopping cart. After enduring some very angry words from an employee; and after the employee took the cart out of my hands in a very hostile manner, I proceeded to enter the store through the exit like I always do. Ever since that incident at Walmart, I no longer try to enter through the exit with a shopping cart.
I would think a doctor could help you by giving you some type of medical exemption letter. It's illegal not to accommodate Americans with Disabilities. (The ADA law saw to that.) Better yet, if someone could work with you on overcoming your issue, then you'd have a lot more freedom. Or, if you could stick to a more traditional grocery store where you can easily go in and out the same door, that would be good too.
Perhaps if you can get a medical exemption letter from a doctor and present that to the manager at Costco, they can make some sort of badge or something for you to show that gets you in and out smoothly. I've never heard of your particular issue, but I know people have all kinds of issues, so I believe it's quite possible that this is yours. I'm going to say a prayer for you that God releases you of this compulsion. And thank you for your service. Take care.
Thank you so much for sticking up for me in this comment section. I appreciate your efforts very much an I am extremely grateful.
equal rights for people with mental illness does not mean the right to break rules. If you do not like the rules, you can try to change them but you cannot break them.
Bud, it's walking through a door to control traffic flow. If you're so "mentally ill" that you can't handle that, you're far gone. Get over yourself and just walk through the entrance like everyone else.
So rude.
I think it’s rude to disobey a very simple instruction just because you don’t want to walk through the entrance.
But is this person's reason for not wanting to walk through the door, valid? I don't know. I'm not a psychiatrist and I don't know if s/he is just trolling. But you're dismissing this person as if they don't count, as if their concerns are meaningless. Perhaps they are very, very valid. You and I don't know. And that's why I think you're being an ass. You're diagnosing that this person is fine and fit to do something that s/he might not actually be fit to do.
Everyone else? Why didn't you get your COVID-19 shot like everyone else? It's just a vaccine.
Are you legally retarded?
It’s an entryway. It’s not a vaccine. It’s walking through a hole in a wall.
You bring up an interesting point. Perhaps I should try to get some kind of legal medical exemption that I can show at the door.
Special treatment? They let the transgender people use the public restroom of their opposite biological sex because they need special treatment.
