I think this painting is a depiction of the watchers when they came down to take wives for themselves and through their seed sprung forth the nephilim and the root of why God had to flood the world. That's what I see. Even the partial bridge reminds me of like a ziggurat where at the top the 'gateway to the gods' would be. I mean Babel in ancient sumerian literally means just that....
