Anyway the premise is my dad (66) is saying that donald trump before he ran for president way back in the day when he was building the NY skyline was a known crook because he refused to pay some of his contractors and that it hurt a lot of families. Can this be refuted? I know he filed for bankruptcies and what not but what is the counterpoint to this line of thinking? Did it really happen and why? Regardless thats not who he is today but my dad is saying that this stuff was known before he was president and thats why alot of people dont like him still and have a hard time getting on board. Im so close to flipping my pops in fact i already think its happened, but this is one point that he loves to stick to. Hope yall are having a good day o7
Having some real conbos with my father and i have a question that i think yoi guys can help me with:
There were articles on this back in 2015 and the gist of it was, they didn't perform to contract. He would follow the contract terms in making changes but some contractors were not happy. That is all the Dems could come up with. As far as not paying, I have withheld payment until contract milestones were met many times.
Lmao this was my go to
Keep in mind some of these were for AC hotel which was basically a sting op for Rudy taking down the mob.
The mob (Nancy P is one) love to play the hurt victims.
Companies layoff massive amounts of people, cancel contracts or go out of business.
Trump can be an ass. Mar-a-Lago was for sale for $20M Trump offered $15M they turned him down as other people wanted to the property to restore. Trump started working with planners and architects for buying the land and view next to Mar-a-Lago with plans to put up a Yuge building. The other investors backed out as they didn't want an obstructed view; and Trump bought it for $5M.
Art of the Deal. But yes this is why the r.e. investment world is very harsh. Cutthroat. Exactly the kind of tough bastard we need as president to pull us back from the brink.
Killer alright. Good starting point as it acknowledges that, yeah, construction requires some ass-acting.
I watched a docu a couple of days ago about Trump's move from queens to Manhattan. Man, he was the only one getting cement during a cement squeeze. And he did not get it while playing easy.
And what about foreign countries? How often does Trump have to say: Korea, Japan, China, Canada, Mexico, EU are screwing over the US, big time.
It would not surprise me if the counter is equal to or north of half the sovereign US-debt.
Is your dad an entrepreneur who took risk to pay hundreds and thousands of contractors? Does your dad comprehend the risks involved in conducting a billion dollar business? Does your dad comprehend the minefield that is construction?
And if your answer is yes, what then would be evidence of that?
Additional question to toss out: ever heard of a shitty contractor? Jobs big and small often find out mid contract that they are dealing with incompetent if not crooked contractors.
Kek, I work with a good guy contractor. Man oh man some of the stories he's shared about people getting screwed by shady contractors and he's had to finish up jobs. The poor home owners don't know any better. Contractors are like auto mechanics, it's hard to find an honest one sometimes.
People don't pay contractors when contractors don't follow the contract. Why does pops assume that a non-payment on a contract means the person is a crook?
Just because someone makes that accusation it doesn't mean it's true!
"Lot's of people" with MSM credibility, DoJ career credibility, and 'intelligence' community credibility swore up and down that Trump was pee-pee'ing on hookers in Russia, while working for Vladimir Putin too. Trump's enemies have zero boundaries when it involves the lies they will concoct against a certifiable "do-gooder" like Donald J. Trump.
And anyone can look at Trump's background and see that life-long Mr. no smoking, drinking, or drugs, top-of-his military boarding school class, Trump, is the spitting image of the kind of "do-gooder" that miscreants hate with a passion.
Wow. Ok, to add on to what everyone else is saying.
If Trump truly just didn’t pay contractors, was he sued? Did he lose in court? I’m not sure, but my guess is NO.
When a contractor doesn’t get paid, the contractor sues. Why are there no court cases showing Trump violated contracts?
Considering that NYC literally changed the law to allow E Jean Carrol to sue him for rape outside of the statute of limitations, wouldn’t they also change the law to allow all these poor, downtrodden contractors to finally have their day in court?
Unfortunately, your pops grew up in a society where people worked really hard to make sure they told the truth, so it’s understandable that he would believe what’s in the media (my pops was the same way).
When a contractor is not paid the contractor files a mechanics lien. They don't "sue"
The mechanics lien is in place and can be foreclosed upon but any federal or state lien will take precedence.
If Trump filed bankruptcy they probably took the property and sold it and all liens were paid. Any deficiency funds were likely never sought after but that can only be guessed.
Can such be done easily outside of UCC? Going through the court system itself outside of UCC may be very cumbersome.
But indeed, a lien would be much more probable, and should be visible within the financing statement database. Trump's name would turn up.
Which law prevents unpaid contractors from suing for breach of contract?
Or, do you mean that in general subcontractors don’t sue?
You said contractors sue. They don't. They file liens.
👍🏻
What makes the news? "Real estate tycoon refuses to pay contractors " or "contractors do a shitty job"?
it's disinfo to see who's done their homework & has the ability to discern truth from propaganda; it's the separation of the wheat from the chaff.
your father obviously doesn't have the persistence for truth; he's Not an autist. I would let him be & talk to him at the appropriate level of conversation; weather, pets, etc. some people just don't give a shit & never will.
This was an angle of attack they used against Trump during the run up to 2016. It failed because it is untrue.
Thanks for the replies guys. Seriously
I guess I would ask your father to provide you with the source for that. if he does, then I would look further into debunking it. if he doesn’t provide a source, then there’s really no argument.
