They have been using the vertical sticks since John Kerry. When you hold them up high they do not block people like the wide placards. I don't know if only Democrats use them but I know Obama used them too. Here's a picture from 2004... Just to show you they have been using them for over 20 years.

And zero zero posts about the Trump rally.
